The first new Aphex Twin single in 13 years sounds just like what I'd expect it to. Earlier today, Mary Anne Hobbs said she'd be premiering a new Aphex Twin single, but it looks like Zane Lowe got his mittens on it first, as he's already christened Syro's lead single as his new "Hottest Records in the World." It's a perfect distinction, though; any of you who grew up like me as proper weirdos infatuated by IDM, this is a serious return to form for Aphex Twin. None of the ambient dreamscapes or drill & bass nightmares, just beautiful melodies wrapped around uptempo beats. There are hefty amounts of quirk and weirdness in this, but it's exactly what you should be wanting to hear from Aphex Twin.

Word is if you've already pre-ordered Syro via iTunes or Bleep, this tune is available, but it should also be available on its own. And if you missed it, Aphex Twin spoke with Rolling Stone about what pushed him to release Syro.
