Dropping November 10 on Toronto's Inner City Dance label is the Power of the Drum album from local legend CARIB. Toronto readers will be excused if this is a name they don't recognize. He's better known as Marcus Visionary, a man who is seminal to local bass music history having been at the center of forward thinking bass music sounds from drum & bass to dubstep, UK funky, and beyond.

The genesis of this LP dates back a few years to 2009-2011 when he was distilling his decades of experience in a sound he called sub soca. Essentially it's the fusion of elements of house, dub, reggae, breaks, kuduro, afro beats, and UK funky into a furious beat driven sound. This release is a collection of dubplates he created during that time and let fall to the wayside when he felt that tastes had moved on. It would have been a tragedy if these had never had wide release because these are some monster beats.

We're proud here at DAD to be able to give you this funky, bassy cut. Keep your ears open for the release. If you're really jonesing to hear the rest you can check out this clip reel of the album. As a special treat, check out his free Riddim Clash EP featuring some other beats he made paired with Caribbean acapellas from the likes of Elephant Man and Sean Paul.
