Damn Wright is a hot new trap producer from the home of trap music, Atlanta, GA. He isn’t what you’d call a traditional trap artist, and his music isn’t flow-y rap lyrics over 808s and kicks in double or triple time. This dude kicks up and traps out almost anything, frequently spotted dubbing and chopping the vocals of a pop song you’ve heard a million times, and adding in a few drops that wobble hard as fuck.
Claiming to be your sister’s favorite producer and seeming to be EDM’s newest internet troll, this kid reminds me a lot of Borgore when he first started out. Not just because of the antics, or the fact that Damn Wright has remixed “Wrecking Ball.” There is real talent behind his fun and games; he has a unique sound that I would bet isn’t going to fade as quick as Miley’s innocence.
It is my belief that Jonathan Wright will outlive silliness seemingly surrounding his persona. His most recent release, a trap remix Eminem’s Rihanna-featured “The Monster” is a display of this way he has with pop songs. The way he plays with Rihanna’s vocal track so that it echoes and falls into hard and heavy bass drops…it is perfectly astounding. He surprises and impresses with each drop, and his transitions, the swift changes in tempo fill each second of this track with intricate details, all part of this signature sound that sets him apart from other trap artists in the industry.
He sends this one out playfully to the monster in all of us.
