“New Scene” first appeared on Canadian electro house producer Felix Cartal‘s EP, Past, Present, and Felix, released a few months ago on EDM wild child Steve Aoki‘s label, Dim Mak Records. The original version has an obvious lyrical intention, characteristic of other tracks from Cartal, this one showcasing a voice you could get lost in, that of singer Ofelia. Vocals are the core element, the melody and dreamlike overlays subtly built to support the singing. Felix tells us in the release that it is a favorite of all the songs he has written. He and Ofelia wrote it together in Los Angeles, a week and a half ago, CRNKN released his electro house remix, speeding up the tempo and adding a writhing synth that builds with the beat, adding some complexity to what was before a very beautiful, but simple track.

The vocals are certainly the track’s driving force in both remixes. Ofelia’s voice is soft and sweet, setting the tone for the first two versions to be the same. Their power lies in the emotional, heavy nature of the lyrics and overall tone of the song. They are kind of sad, almost have a desperation about them. The artwork for this single couldn’t be more fitting, an intense portrait you’d expect to see in Lady Gaga‘s photo album.

Cartal and Lucky Date collaborated on a remix that will bump in the club, faster than the original, layered with a euphoric melody line and beats that packs a bit more punch to get the crowd moving. It is obvious that the collaboration, Lucky Date’s big room sound mixed with Felix’s electro feels, spawned just the spunk need to inject this track with a little adrenaline.

This will be a part of the New Scene remix EP, which will also feature versions TOKiMONSTA, Deorro, and Lazy Rich; you can grab this EP on December 3.
