We missed posting on Canada Day last week, but this week we’re making up for it. Over the last few years, the Toronto duo Free n Losh has built up a growing catalog of remixes and sample-driven beats to whet your whistle with a wide range of styles. Classic rock, hip-hop, soul, jazz, and the blues have all been major sonic touchstones for these talented producers and while those styles have earned them quite a buzz, their newest track is already their most significant yet. “Lost” features FnL’s new fusion of chilled 808s and their own take on the tropical house sound and the dreamy indie-pop soulfulness of Cat Lewis’s vocals. The result is Free n Losh’s first wholly original track and a special summertime jam. The track was first previewed on the duo’s installment of the DAD mix series and it’s a melding of genres, grooves, and sonic styles that’s new and yet familiar for the duo and should be a taste of what’s to come in the future. The track is also the first release on new start-up label Next Wave and rightfully kicks off the label with these feel good grooves. Grab this now.
