I’ll keep it funky: if it wasn’t for Pigeons & Planes, I’d have no idea about the beauty that is the music of Grimes. So of course when her latest song in a minute gets posted, that’s who hips me to it, and I’m glad they did, because this cut is kind of a banger. “Go,” which she made with Blood Diamonds (another artist it feels like we’ve not heard from in a bit), was premiered by Zane Lowe on Radio 1 yesterday.
Grimes said that she not only likes working with Blood Diamonds, but that this track was apparently originally written for Rihanna. With S-Type recently releasing a track that Drake slept on, it’s interesting to see these acts call on the writers and producers who are on the cusp, but then ultimately not utilize their material. Is that a thing going on right now? I can’t front; I’m not sure how Rihanna would sound on this one, and judging by the SoundCloud comments, some of her fans aren’t feeling this. The track is definitely something that could work for some of your bassier DJ sets, but I can see why Grimes diehards might not rock with it.
