The UK grime scene will always have a special place in my heart. I have such an affinity for bass music and hip-hop that the combination of two in a hyperactive sound always bugs me out. As of late, the more 8-bar style has taken things over for me, with producers making riddims that flip and bounce every 8 bars. I’ve been on a hunt for the sound, and after seeing Spooky tweet about a producer from Glasgow by the name of Inkke releasing a 10-track bootleg pack for free, I was all over it. This isn’t for heads who need sprawling soundscapes or tracks with ethereal vocals embedded in them. This is intense, this is fun, this is funky… this is what it is, 8-bar bootlegs of tunes from Nelly, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, and others, although you might not recognize them once Inkke gets through with them. He even flips Spooky’s “Baby.” Get hype on a Sunday night.
