Kingdom – “Corpse”

kingdom-vertical-xl

After stumbling upon the cornucopia of epic that is Kingdom‘s “OG Master” in L-Vis 1990′s guest mix for B.Traits, we had to track down the release, and we’re glad to say that Kingdom did the damn thing, which is evident with the intriguing “Corpse.” He has no issue creating entire worlds within a track, yet instead of guiding you through, he’ll establish this atmosphere, then suddenly pull the floor out from under you, or strip down the walls so you can really see how free this area is. We love the idea of closing your eyes and getting lost in the music, and “Corpse’ allows you to feel secure while still being able to engage in some free play.

Kingdom’s Vertical XL EP will be released via Fade to Mind on May 28.

Engaging track, but not really dancefloor music, is it? Strikes me that the Night Slugs camp is more and more music for taking pharmaceuticals on the couch rather than rocking out at a club.

      don’t pigeonhole this site.

The site name does have “dance” in it, lol, though that’s not really what I was getting at. NS and associated crews are ostensibleu dancefloor technicians, yet ever since Jam City’s album (and together with what Pearson Sound and others are doing in that “sparse” direction), they’re getting further and further away from viable dance music.

I’m not mad at it–Jam City’s record got as much play at my house as any EDM last year–but it is interesting to see where they’re headed. Makes me that much more excited for Daft Punk to bring life and music back to the dancefloor, tbh.

judging by your logic, this site should just be videos of androids dancing, or attempting to dance

By my “logic”? I straight-up said in my follow-on post that my comment wasn’t driven by the site’s name, and jokingly (“lol”) noted only that it has dance in the title.

Look, I’m into the music that you feature on this site and posted my comment because I thought it might engender some discussion about how this particular group of musicians seem to be moving out of one sphere (dance music) and into another.

If you’re down, you’ll participate in that discussion. Or, you know, you could keep trying to win points on me for something I didn’t even say.

how can you be joking, but when i make a joke you get into two and three paragraph comments? and “try to win points?” that’s not me.

          • http://soundcloud.com/the-colonel-mc The Colonel

Haha! Now you’re drawing conclusions about my mood based on the fact that I used paragraphs!? You’ve been looking at Twitter too much, homie!

BTW, you ever google your site? It says: “Do Androids Dance aims to provide the freshest within electronic dance music, or as the kids like to call it, “EDM.”
            ;)

LOL who do you think wrote that?

          • http://soundcloud.com/the-colonel-mc The Colonel

I don’t knoow, but I can tell from the kerning he suffers from a crippling case of one-upsmanship!

No one is trying to one-up anyone. At least not this guy.
