Kingdom’s “Innovators Mix” for XLR8R

When I was in LA going to college and playing with Photoshop and Dreamweaver in my minimal free time, my two best friends Chris and Logan would invite me to this party at La Cita called “Mustache Mondays.” It was hella far from me, and I really had to finish my homework and avoid drunk driving, so I wouldn’t go. Soon I found out that Kingdom and NGUZUNGUZU were DJing this party, and it was as cool and experimental as Low End Theory, so I knew I had to go. This was before people had diagnosed this disease I have as a professional partier called FOMO. All the cool kids were there (and they were literally too cool for school, so they didn’t have homework like me), but soon Kingdom started this thing called Fade to Mind (his record label), which made it easier for me to keep up with Mustache Mondays and all the sick music they were making and playing without having to go to a party when I need to be reading about Caravaggio and making YouTube playlists.

So now we’re at this point when Kingdom is being called an “Innovator” on XLR8R, and it’s true, because he started this movement that no one can stop and really helps America since we didn’t really have an Ed Banger or Night Slugs or MTA or Pearson Sound (I know there’s like UNO, Body High, OWSLA, and Bromance now), and now we can just vibe out to everything from Cassie and Ciara to like Chicago house and hardstyle in a way that feels totally normal and perfect. Of course his artist Kelela is really blowing up right now, she toured with Solange and all that, too. Not to sound like Kanye but we really need this good music, and I just hope someone gives Fade to Mind a ton of money to execute this music and their visuals the way they’ve always dreamed of. Honestly this sexy Rizzla mix kind of made my year (also, khal name-dropping me in the post!). But now this “Innovators Mix” just reminds me where I came from and how I grew up with Fade to Mind and maybe that’s what helped me move to New York and get through crazy shit…maybe?

That’s all. Check out the mix via XLR8R.
