Mat Zo may have broken into fame with a trance sound, but he's made it clear he's not tied to it. It makes sense too when you consider Mat originally was a drum & bass producer under the name MRSA with releases on Hospital Records. But his EDC Chicago set? Well, it's not what we were expecting at all and we couldn't be happier. Opening with a electro banger from techno producer Koen Groenvald, Mat Zo used his hour set to unlock a number of ID tracks including a remix of Daft Punk's ubiquitous single, "Get Lucky," all together creating one heck of a set. With his forthcoming album, we're sure some of the IDs will be on the albums, but we can't quite tell yet. With the remix (starts at 23:25) you can hear the crowds' "oohs" and "aahs" and we're right along with them with as the remix takes on it's own unique Ibiza-esque techy popping bass bounce. It's only a rip, so we'll reserve the right to change our thoughts, but that's what it sounds like there, and we're happy for sure. Mr. Zo wasn't done wowing the crowd though as he dropped an ID called "Caller" which we guess is on his upcoming album as t's a departure from anything we've heard. The ID in question employs middle eastern percussion along side some serious dubstep riddims and trap hi-hats that along with a stellar vocal manipulation, makes quite the hypnotic banger. The mix showcases Mat's ever-evolving style and march towards a freeform sound that will take him right to the closing timeslots. Need that final kick for the end of the day run? Let this one rock.
