Coming at you today with some fresh new tech house is an LA local by the name of Modus. If you’re not familiar, don’t worry because we weren’t either, but with the release of his self-titled EP today, we’d be surprised if we didn’t end up kicking ourselves for sleeping on his music for so long.
The EP, which is being released via Prep School Recordings, is the first in what will hopefully be an extensive focus on his own personal productions since launching his career alongside heavyweights like Simian Mobile Disco in the Barcelona club scene while living abroad. If you haven’t pressed play yet – then let me tell you what you’re in for…
The versatile sounds on this EP seem to encompass a broad range of musical taste and inspiration and jump from upbeat party tunes to low key grooves that are more reminiscent of deep house influences. Richie Hawtin, Markus Schulz, and Dusky are just a few vibes that inspired Modus in the creation of this EP, and you can definitely hear their mark on his work.
On top of this EP, Modus offered up a “Forgot About Dre” remix yesterday to celebrate the EP’s drop today, and at DAD, we love when we get great music to celebrate, well, great music. Grab both now, don’t forget to show some love to Modus on Facebook, and if you’re in LA, catch him closing out DJ Snake‘s set at The Avalon on September 13.
