Talk about random. While I'm not surprised that Just Blaze worked with Hudson Mohawke (hell, at the very least, they both know Kanye West and travel in the same hip-hop/EDM circles), I'm not really certain if this is what I was expecting a collaboration between HudMo and Just Blaze would sound like necessarily. No, I wasn't expecting the TNGHT x Just Blaze version of "Higher," and if I'm being honest, I'm not really sure what it is about this one that I'm not digging. It could be that I'm not a huge fan of OnCue. Nothing against him, just not the kind of MC I'm checking for. I think the drums on this track are solid, and the "so much love" vocal in the hook might could work, but there's something about the overall package that I'm just not feeling. Dare I say it feels a bit cheesy? Whatever my issue is, it looks like I'm in the minority, as this record's shooting up Billboard's Emerging Charts, and has received props from HotNewHipHop and DJ Booth. Maybe I'm just getting old. And you'd think, I'm seen as such an angry old man, you'd think I'd gravitate to a track from an album entitled Angry Young Man.
