For London-based and Saint Lucia-born Poté to be gifted at crafting a hybrid bass sound makes sense. The Caribbean nation of his birth is known as the "Helen (of Troy) of the West Indies," an allusion to the nation switching so often between British and French control. However, the duality present in "Jabulu," the underground producer's addition to the third volume of Enchufada's Upper Cuts series, is between tropical soca and Angolan kuduro. The track frenetically rumbles to a peak, then casts itself adrift into a sea of dark tribal/tropical madness. It's a heavy hybrid that sets forth an entrancing vibe that certainly lends itself to not just a song, but a full body experience.
