Last week, it was announced that footwork king DJ Rashad had signed with Hyperdub for the release of his Rollin' EP, and a quick preview of the EP's four tracks is now available, and this thing sounds purely amazing. The title track features a fly R&B sample in the usual Rashad flavor, but things take a different turn quickly. Rashad's "Let it Go" features some Metalheadz-inspired jungle breaks, while the DJ Manny-collaboration "Drums Please" features drums on drums on drums. Rashad and DJ Spinn link up for "Broken Hearted," which takes us out with another one of those tracks that married the complex footwork drum work with a vintage R&B sample. Solid primer for people who love this sound, and are intrigued with how it will be moving into the future.
The Rollin' EP is dropping on vinyl and digital download on March 18.
