That’s right, the title of this is just “Rasterinha EP.” Not really a big deal though. There aren’t that many rasterinha EPs to begin with. If you’re not caught up yet, rasterinha is a new type of global bass music from Brazil that is descended from baile funk with elements of Caribbean music. You can read more about it here.
This EP brings together the efforts of a slew of producers from all over the globe and was curated by Renato Martins of Funk Na Caixa who’s articles were so helpful with my understanding of the genre and DJ Comrade who has been integral to helping us at Do Androids Dance stay on top of this. Just looking at the list of names who have participated is incredible, it gives you a real idea of how fast things can spread in this age of the Internet. There are not just Brazilians but French, Italian, English and even American producers represented. When I think about it, with so many tracks I don’t know why they called it an EP.
This should be a great source of new fresh, latin sounds to add to your EDM sets this weekend if that’s what you’re up to. If not, you can at least listen to this and feel like you’re in a warm place and not stuck in this polar vortex hell like most of us in the north east of North America.
