The Bixel Boys are leaving 2013 behind with a bang, dropping one of their most anticipated and well-supported releases of the year in the aptly named Bring It On EP. If 2013 was anything, it was the year of Bix and fans like myself got to watch the boys go from Southern California’s best kept secret to an internationally touring, musically mature, duo with production quality on par with acts ten times their tenure.
Just because their freshman experience saw an explosive step into the scene, don’t expect another flash in the pan from these guys – if you haven’t had a chance to explore their extensive library, be prepared to see some range. From pushing an old school hip-hop vibe on their first Fixtape appearance, to the garage vibes of their “Embrace” remix, and into their new EP where they juxtapose blasting snares and thick, grimy bass.
If a group’s ability to to remain uncategorized in any way speaks to their shelf life then expect the Bixel Boys to be around for a long time. And make sure you pick up their EP, out today on New York City’s infamous Nurvous Records.
