Today the world of music lost a true great in Horace Silver, who passed away at the age of 85. Horace Silver, an accomplished pianist, worked with a number of the greats in the jazz scene, recording with Art Blakey at the legendary Birdland, as well as being a part of the Miles Davis All Stars (you can hear him on Miles’ Walkin’ album, for example). He also created timeless gems like “Song For My Father,” and has been sampled by everyone from Easy Mo Bee to Meat Beat Manifesto. Real vinyl diggers love using his material, and the mighty Traxman dug deep to craft this tribute to Horace’s memory. The construction of this one is immaculate, layering the different pieces perfectly. One of those jawns that you’ll have on repeat. I know I do. Rest in peace, Horace Silver.
