I spent this past weekend at the Electric Daisy Carnival in New York with Jake, and our recaps are certain to be completely different. Our tastes, backgrounds, and age set us apart, but both of us hung out for the weekend at Citi Field in Queens, listening to incredible DJs play incredible music on incredible sound systems all weekend.

As I was crouched behind Porter Robinson (like RIGHT behind him) with 2 friends, things start unraveling in my head. There are 50,000 people in the crowd. There are 500 people backstage. There were maybe 50 people ON the main stage. This perspective was unique because, well, my access allowed it to be. And believe me, if I wasn't taking shits in the Mets clubhouse and enjoying complimentary beverages at the artist area, it would probably affect my opinion on this event.

But the experience was stellar. I got to hang out with a bunch of people that I truly love and witness sets from a ton of DJs that I wouldn't normally go see. Taking note of the unique position I was in, literally tucked between one of the most popular DJs in the world and the pyro setup, I started to think deeper about what my job in music meant. And instead of going to the afterparty last night, I went home so I could recall this weekend's revelations with a bit of clarity.

Preperation is key
