Tech house seems to be a pretty misunderstood genre. In the States, at least, tech house is often met with tired complaints of repetitiveness and a lack of musicality. To those people, I’d say meet Joris Voorn. The Dutchman has been a leading figure in the global tech house scene, having released multiple albums, including his most recent Nobody Knows, and been responsible for peak-time anthems like “Goodbye Fly” and “Spank The Maid.” Voorn has toured the world, played festivals, and just generally held it down as a king of tech house. With Nobody Knows, Voorn expanded his tech house sound and incorporated an indie vibe that could be appreciated at home by a fire just as easily as in the club. Certainly not all the cuts are tech house–some would be better labeled as deep house or some sort of electronica–but there’s a distinctly focused sound; just as we’ve come to expect and appreciate from Voorn. You might not be up on the man, though, so here’s 10 things you definitely didn’t know about Joris Voorn, straight from the horse's mouth.
