I would be a moron if I thought I could thoroughly explain the origins of the term "turn up." What I do know is that it's an order. A directive from someone who knows better than you. And they are demanding that you go nuts. You only had a couple drinks. You are casually dancing with a lady. And you're at a lounge. If someone tells you to turn up, you immediately grab your girl, go to the wildest club in town, order a bottle, and wyle out. Turning up is increasing the amplitude on life, and it is a mantra for some.

"Turn Up" has also been the cry from rappers and residents in the South for quite some time. And as trap music exploded, I couldn't help but notice the influx of tracks with some variation of "turn up" in the title, but be warned: If you make a track with a name that has any variation of "turn up," it better be the best record you ever produced, because while this would seem like the perfect gimmick, I doubt anyone noticed that there were nine other producers doing the same exact thing. And all of these records are insane. This is the comprehensive list of songs that give you an excuse to act like a goddamn fool. TURN UP!

Crimes! - "Turnt"

Not Available Interstitial

Crimes is one of my favorite names in the game right now. He's been making some of the most versatile sounds in bass music for the past few years, and consistently blowing my mind with his unique style. This one is layered perfectly, pitching a sample into something menacing, and flipping back and forth between an old breaks style and dirty trap. TURN UP!

heRobust - "Turn Ape"

heRobust is getting attention for one reason: his work. His output in the past year has been nothing short of incredible. Atlanta is filled with an unimaginable amount of talent, and everyone that truly pops from there is making their own unique waves. heRobust is no exception.

"Turn Ape" is an obvious poke at "Turn Up," but there's nothing funny about this song. The horn sample is anthemic, and backed by a destructive bassline. He interweaved pitched vocals to wrap this together so nicely. TURN UP!

Anax - "Turn't Up"

Not Available Interstitial

You might not know much about Anax! because, well, nobody knew about him before I found him. He had 24 followers on SoundCloud, and handed me this disgusting track for placement. He's still under 100 followers on SoundCloud if you need confirmation that this talent is fresh. 20,000 plays later, "Turn't Up" has turned eyes onto his next move. All I want to do is break things when I hear this. TURN UP!

iMAGiN8 - "Turn Up"

Not Available Interstitial

iMAGiN8 is a relatively new producer from Boston that's been going apeshit with his remix game recently. This is a large track with slight hints of dubstep womp, incredible strings, and a simple yet addictive synth that you could hear fitting well on a track at 128 BPM. But this is a gritty trap track. If you don't know what to do with this, I'll help you out. TURN UP!

Butch Clancy - "The Turn Up"

Not Available Interstitial

You should be no stranger to Butch Clancy. His recent work has turned him into one of the leaders of the trap game. And the song title hints that the turn up might be one singular thing instead. And if you read deeply into the title, the concept that everything turnt stems from one higher power is mind blowing. This one is a bit less busy than the floor stompers he's been putting out as of late, but it's not to be slept on. TURN UP.

Gent & Jawns - "Turn Up"

Not Available Interstitial

This song logged nearly 200,000 plays in the last 4 months. Gent & Jawns represent the DMV, and have until recently been making mostly moombahton. They went quickly from releasing a banger on the Moombahton Forever compilation to knocking out an official remix for Diplo and Nicky Da B's "Express Yourself," followed by a Diplo & Friends mix. Their career spiraled out of control in an instant, and it seems that every track they release is a bit better than the last. They are showing producers how to step their game up every time they move. Turn Up!

Donkong - "Turn It Up"

I still don't know what Molly Grit is. Supposedly it's a mix of several musical influences. This sounds like a bounce track to me with moombahton influence, but what do I know? In any case, this one is absolutely crazy. "Turn It Up" implies that there is something specific that needs to be turnt up. Listening further, we can only assume that the goal is for the bass to be increased slightly. This song is giant, but we think the directions given are misleading. TURN UP!

UZ ft. Casey Veggies & Iamsu - "Trap S**t V15 (Turn Up)"

Not Available Interstitial

UZ released a stack of giant tunes, had his first release come out on Mad Decent, and has been picked up for bookings by AM Only. And people STILL aren't sure who he is. This meshes the electronic trap sound with vocals from Casey Veggies & Iamsu, and detuned bells add a slightly haunting vibe. TURN UP!

MYRRYRS - "Burn & Turn It Up"

Not Available Interstitial

This wavy one from MYRRYRS gives you TWO directives. You're supposed to burn, then turn it up. Or burn and turn it up at the same time? We can only imagine they're asking you to get stoned before bugging out. The last thing I want to do when I'm high is turn up. I just want to fold laundry and maybe eat some Triscuits. This song is also more mellow than the rest, so I'm incredibly confused. TURN UP!

Turn Up - "Lifestyle"

Not Available Interstitial

Now if you call yourself TURNUP, you are one cocky motherfucker. And the icing on the cake is that their whole style is in caps. No games are being played. Ah, but TURNUP is a duo. These two Syracuse natives blew my mind with this track, and unquestionably win at life. Because you have to turn up every time TURNUP comes out with a new track. TURNUP!
