“Trap” is a term that many producers have an issue with. In Atlanta, trap has a completely different meaning; its roots are real and embedded in the hip-hop culture. The start of this electronic hybrid really started in 2012 with Flosstradamus’ remix of Major Lazer’s “Original Don," and has spun in dozens of directions since.

We don’t have a problem with this genre, its popularity, or even the name. What we DO have a problem with is the people that have no background or knowledge of the genre that have latched onto the current wave without educating themselves. We're not speaking on the beginnings of trap as it relates to rap; you should look to Daniel Disaster for those answers. But we were listening to songs that had these elements before it got named and popularized, and we’re going to give you a proper history on the 30 trap records that happened before you called it trap.

    love how this is giving cred to tracks less than 2yrs old. trap music has been around way longer than half these cats that are listed. wayyyyy longer. the guys listed are the ones influenced by the actual original trap music that was bumpin in the south 10-12yrs ago

      “trap,” the EDM genre, hasn’t been around as long as the southern hip-hop genre of trap music. that’s the whole point of talking about the rise of the EDM trap sound that only really started in January 2012.

    who ever wrote this list has no idea what trap is…….its been around for ages!!!!pick up up any southern rap album in the last ten years that isnt soulful like outkast or ugk…. and you will find trap has been in the brew since the time of 3 6 mafias first few albums or even ti or young jeezy first few. Stop using buzzwords to misinform people about the history of something you only learnt about since “harlem shake” or when you decided to go through your itunes and u thought u were a badman coz you had the most popular bangers of the last ten years…not to mention girl unit’s wut was one the first full stripping down of dubstep into hiphop, similar to rammadanman’s glut, that was coherent with trap.It directly led to edm trap.Read a book
