Recently, celebrity chef and TV personality Anthony Bourdain has been in the news for some remarks he made about his disdain for EDM. We spoke on it briefly in this piece about people's misguided hate towards EDM, but that's not enough. Sometimes, the best ways to turn someone around is to show them the light. We're always down to get someone into some music they might not have heard before... hence this quick selection. Based on interviews we've read about Bourdain's taste in music with Maxim and Rolling Stone, we figured we'd try to tailor some EDM-friendly beats to those moods and vibes. This is literally us just picking up on some subtle cues he laid down, and providing tunes to supplement. Hopefully Anthony can try a few of these on for size and see if he really just hadn't heard the right electronic music yet.

The Rolling Stones - "Gimme Shelter (Zeds Dead Remix)"

BOURDAIN1

Bourdain told Maxim that "Gimme Shelter" would be his "ultimate appetizer," so we'll start here. With the nasty vibe that this Canadian duo put upon this classic, we have a feeling he'd be impressed with their mouth-watering array of delectable beats.

Redeyes - "Pusherman"

BOURDAIN2

While not a direct flip of Curtis Mayfield's "Pusherman," this dnb gem is rooted in the funky wonderment that Mayfield's material would dwell in, especially during the Superfly days.

Joker ft. Ginz - "Purple City"

BOURDAIN5

Bourdain also told Maxim that Snoop Dogg's "Gin & Juice" was great music to ride to. Maybe he'll get turn to the G-Funk-friendly vibes of that purple sound? Joker and Ginz knocked out "Purple City," which featured heavy bass but a keen sense of melody. Ride out.

Kanye West - "Mercy (RL Grime & Salva Remix)"

BOURDAIN4

That Maxim interview also found Bourdain saying that he doesn't care "how big of an asshole he is," he wanted to go see Kanye live. We're not sure if he made that happen, but Kanye's Yeezus record was more loud and electronic than ever. He might not want a "Send It Up," but why not vibe to RL Grime and Salva's huge trap rework of "Mercy?"

Pretty Lights - "Lost and Found"

BOURDAIN3

One thing that interested us was his mention of The Brian Jonestown Massacre's "Anemone." No, we don't have a remix of it, but it reminded us of the chilled vibes of producers like Pretty Lights. Bourdain seems to like hard beats and solid grooves, and Pretty Lights has those in spades.
