The 16 Bit Lolitas have been in the game for a while. They had been producing music separately before linking up to form this duo in 2003, and have been running things ever since. They are the guys behind the successful Bits & Pieces imprint, which joined Armin van Buuren's Armada Music in 2011, further solidifying the work they've put into the progressive house scene.

For this week's Five Tracks, the 16 Bit Lolitas really dug into some classic sounds! We've heard a lot of Richie Hawtin in these features, but names like The Orb and BT being brought up bring back memories of our own time spent in dance music. This is a really eclectic mix. Check out the 16 Bit Lolita's Five Tracks.

The Infinite Wheel - "Lake of Dreams"

An amazing, spaced-out track from the English production duo from 1992! The almost lounge-y sound was revolutionary back then and it would take a long time for sounds like this to be heard in clubs cross the globe.

Spooky - "Aqualung"

From their 1993 Gargantuan album (that I borrowed to a friend that never returned it aaarggghh!). That whole album I still consider to be the best work of Spooky. It was a great look into the future. Even now the music still isn’t outdated.

Richie Hawtin - "Concept 1"

From his concept series of the late '90s, of which all the records are amazing! Minimal would still take 10 years to arrive in the underground scene, yet around 1997 Richie had already made the best minimal tracks ever (in my opinion). Play this music at an afterparty and see how weird things get quickly ;)

The Orb - "Little Fluffy Clouds"

The track that introduced me to the Orb and made me a fan for life. The Orb simply made some of the trippiest music ever!

BT - "Hip Hop Phenomenon"

Not Available Interstitial

From the 1999 album Movement in Still Life. That whole album influenced me a lot if only for the crazy level of editing BT did on it. In many ways this music is the precursor to the current Dubstep movement. He was one of the first to do insane edits and make a style based on that.
