dirtybird is killing it on the low. Their latest is a two-track EP from Iranian producer Ardalan, The Yeah / No, which falls right in line with their merky, funky house selections. This is Ardalan's first solo EP, and it should put him not only in the same light as the rest of the crew, but on that list of producers you should truly be checking for in the near future. To get better acquainted with Ardalan, he stepped up for this week's Five Tracks, giving us a selection of tunes that helped shape his career. Trust, listen to these bits, then run through the selection; it all makes sense.

Italoboyz - "Viktor Casanova (Lee Curtiss Remix)"

viktor casanova

This little beast was a record I heard early at a Dirtybird BBQ party, back when I attended one for the first time! It's something I would listen to when I started my love affair with underground music in San Francisco. It's such a mysterious tune with such a dope groove.

Daft Punk - "Around The World"

around the world

When I was 5 in Iran, my cousin gave my older brother a CD and we played it in my parents car on a road trip. That CD was Daft Punk's Homework.  "Around the World" was the first electronic track I heard hitting my ears and it's still a classic groover. No matter how big this track is it still feels fresh.

Petter - "Some Polyphony"

some polyphony

Petter's "Some Polyphony" is very special to me. It is one of those tracks that stands out. When played out, it can change the course of the night. It has raw emotion that you can taste. The warm polyphonic stabs with the fat groove under it makes me go crazy. The production has such an amazing balance of colors. It's art. Rumor has it this song made Petter go insane but who knows, it will always be a masterpiece.

Mr. Oizo - "Monday Massacre"

flat beat

"Monday Massacre" is such a bad ass record. Again, I heard this from my brother when he picked me up from middle school. He would literally blasted so loud that people and teachers would be like "wtf are you doing with you're life?!!" The bass in this track is like if a T-rex just swallowed a Moog synthesizer. Just big man, BIG.

Tom Tom Club - "Genius of Time"

tom tom club

This song is one of those gems from the '80s. The beat is pretty gangster if I might say. It's way before I was born, but it's one of those tunes that makes me wish I was wearing Carrera aviators like Tony Montana and I would be partying on a beach in 1984, I have big imaginations :P
