Though thousands of people flock to the Mad Decent Block Party every year, one of the most overlooked and under-appreciated branches of this recognizable brand is Philly’s Mad Decent Mondays. Dirty South Joe, Flufftronix, Gun$ Garcia, QI Command, Suga Shay, DJ Yahmean, Uncle Ron, and DJ Sega have all curated these events in some capacity for more than three years, creating the flyers, spinning records, and promoting.

There have been challenges for this party. It’s moved locations three times, and has a competing party less than a mile away.  It’s also been a minute since Diplo showed up to represent his brand.  But the show soldiers on; a small, dedicated crowd of true music fans get to enjoy affordable drinks, see some incredible acts for a ridiculously cheap cover, and get to interact with a lot of the people that make the weekends pop off in and around Philadelphia.  It’s more or less an industry-night filled with DJs, promoters, and artists, and acts booked are nothing to balk at.

I have had the pleasure of playing this party twice.  Once with Dirty South Joe, Heroes x Villains, and Swizzymack.  Munchi was staying at my house for a few days and donned the stage as a special guest.  The other was called the “Thugstep Summit,” and featured Dr. Ew, QI Command, Suga Shay, Tim Dolla, and Philly’s favorite party emcee, Buddy Leezle.  The crowd wants you to broaden their musical horizon, and is incredibly receptive to new sounds. It’s truly a utopia for anyone that’s bored with trends.

As Philly’s Mad Decent Block Party is right around the corner, it’s necessary that we give a nod to those that keep the brand alive for the rest of the year. Though the block party is sold out, you can still catch Dirty South Joe and Diplo at the after party at SoundGarden Hall. QI Command also gave us a folder of all of the flyers that he had his hands on. You have to admire the wild ideas that went into these weekly flyers, blending the Mad Decent humor along with eye-popping visuals that took notes from current pop culture and nostalgic pieces of cult entertainment. Take a peek at the wild lineups archived in this amazing gallery.
