You know what we realized the other day? It's been ten years since Noisia put out their first release. Think about it; they went from being one of the few darlings in the early 2000s, one of the talking points on drum & bass' expansion outside of the UK. This crew from the Netherlands has gone on to remixing everyone from Skrillex to Katy Perry, signing to Roc Nation, and helping shape the sound of dnb (and other forms of electronic music) in their vision. With the I Am Legion project with Foreign Beggars practically ushering in the next decade of their career (with Skrillex's OWSLA helping bring it out to the masses), we figured it made sense to look into the last ten years and highlight their remix work, which could be seen as catalysts in their rise from drum & bass darlings to undeniable pillars of the electronic music community.

Hadouken! - "Liquid Lives (Noisia Remix)"

Not Available Interstitial

Label: Surface Noise

Year: 2007

Hadouken! has always been open to the sound of electronic music, and while this doesn't dwell in the maniacal dnb lane that Noisia was known for those days, it leaned more towards their work as Drifter, almost like they took the massive dnb vibes, dialed it back a few BPMs, and made it a bit more breakbeat-y. It works well with the subs, even if you're not as crazy about Noisia dwelling near the dnb sound.

Mindscape - "No Escape (Noisia Remix)"

Not Available Interstitial

Label: Citrus

Year: 2007

When drum & bass truly went global, we heard so many acts coming from Hungary and The Netherlands, and with the similarities in their style of drum & bass funk, it made sense for Mindscape to ask for Noisia to remix their cut "No Escape" and feature it on their Black Lotus LP. If you want that pure "biofunk"sound, where the drums and bass sound like they're warped and coming from some murky, underground cybernetics project, this is what you need. Pure adrenaline.

Skynet - "Carbon Shock (Noisia Remix)"

Not Available Interstitial

Label: Sudden Def

Year: 2006

When you look at the chain of tech-infused drum & bass, before Noisia, and even before Konflict, you have to give your props to Stakka & Skynet, who worked wonders for the sound during the early 2000s. The duo split, and Skynet went deeper with his drum & bass tracks, with "Carbon Shock" being a big tune for him, although the way Noisia reworked it, you probably remember this version more than the original. It's a huge bassline, crunchy and fierce, with little else to get in the way of its bite. This one fully engulfs you and keeps the crowd moving.

Moby - "Alice (Noisia Remix)"

Not Available Interstitial

Label: Vision Recordings

Year: 2008

Eerie and twisted, Noisia's take on Moby's "Alice" takes the track into a darker, more demented style of drum & bass, which was truly up their alley. It was also one of the biggest names they'd remixed at the time, and we were loving that Moby gave them the OK to put it out on their Vision imprint. The warp of the vocals, which already aren't your regular bars, fit perfectly on this paranoid track, bringing some of the best dark dnb to the forefront. That second drop is everything.

Konflict - "Messiah (Noisia Remix)"

Not Available Interstitial

Label: Renegade Hardware

Year: 2005

For drum & bass fans, Konflict's "Messiah" is a bonafide anthem. Their style helped usher in the use of techno vibes into the dnb scene, but when it came time for Renegade Hardware to have a remix of "Messiah" done, it made perfect sense that Noisia were hand-picked for this one. It's scary when anthems get reworked, but Noisia did the tune justice. They made sure to inject their style into it while staying true to the original, which is what any great remix should do. It definitely feels crunchier and more "now" than the original "Messiah" did, and mashed down any party that it was dropped in.

Skrillex - "Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites (Noisia Remix)"

Not Available Interstitial

Label: Mau5trap

Year: 2010

One thing we love about the likes of Skrillex and Deadmau5 is the idea that, while they are king fish in terms of "known EDM artists," they aren't shunning people they rock with. Mau5trap getting Noisia to turn their severe bass onto Skrillex's already-insane "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites," so much so that even the track's signature melody gets assaulted by bass injections at random intervals. The in-your-face quality of the original is in tact, but we imagine heads who didn't rock with Skrillex probably turned this version on and felt fine.

Katy Perry - "E.T. (Noisia Remix)"

Not Available Interstitial

Label: Capitol

Year: 2011

It's weird being in a spot where you love dance music. You don't want to totally avoid pop music (although you should), because amazing pieces of music like this happen. What is Noisia doing on a remix EP featuring takes from Tiesto, Dave Aude, and Benny Benassi? Blowing our minds, honestly. While some of them might be the "bigger" names, with more mass appeal, this version was obviously the more dynamic. To the point where MTV commercials for America's Best Dance Crew featured Noisia's take above others. Just huge dubstep, making us tolerate Katy Perry. Major kudos.

Foreign Beggars - "Contact (Noisia Remix)"

Not Available Interstitial

Label: Dented

Year: 2009

Noisia and Foreign Beggars have a solid history, and it feels like the production trio brings the best out of the UK MC squad. Noisia actually produced the hyper original, but of course they took it upon themselves to churn out a drum & bass version, and this beast was all kinds of murder on bassbins. Crispy drum work, hypnotic blasts of bass, and all kinds of aggression (those Foreign Beggars shouting "BLAOW" at random intervals works wonders). Remixes like this are what made us so excited when Noisia and Foreign Beggars announced their I Am Legion project.

Skrillex - "Bug Hunt (Noisia Remix)"

Not Available Interstitial

Label: Walt Disney

Year: 2012

What do you get when you add an animated Disney film about the lives of arcade games when the lights go off, Skrillex, and Noisia on the remix? A warped, futuristic disco banger that feels like what people assumed Daft Punk's Tron soundtrack would've sounded like without hearing it. The way they flipped the samples, the intense electro pace, and the Wreck-It Ralph snippet had us in awe. Noisia is known for a lot of things, and hearing them bring a hard, garage-inspired vibe to "Bug Hunt" was truly inspiring.

The Prodigy - "Smack My B***h Up (Noisia Remix)"

Not Available Interstitial

Label: XL Recordings

Year: 2012

Maybe Noisia should just be remixing everything that we loved about dance music. The Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up" was a huge piece of controversy for a historically controversial group, but imagine if it had been released back then with a dubstep version like this? It would've been instant insanity. This actually feels like a knock-down, drag-out gang fight, or maybe a beatdown. Imagine each drawn-out bass tone being footage of someone getting socked in the stomach, slowed-down to a crawl. They catch there breath and its another gut punch/elbow to the nose. Intense stuff here, but if you're looking to update some of the best of electronica, you need the proper artillery. Noisia is that.
