4th & B’Way, a hip-hop label that had released classic albums like Eric B & Rakim’s Paid in Full, X Clan’s To the East, Backwards, and Mobb Deep’s first album, Juvenile Hell, has been relaunched by Island Def Jam as a dance music imprint, with their first signing being Cazzette, the Swedish EDM duo that released their debut album Eject on Spotify. Island Def Jam is obviously seeing how viable EDM can be – not just from releasing strictly dance music albums, but more with mainstream acts working with dance artists on new material as well. Think of it in terms of Zedd‘s deal with Interscope, where he’s signed to Interscope to release music, but he’s also there working with Lady Gaga on her album. Don’t be surprised if that’s how IDJ will start pushing the acts they sign to 4th & B’Way.
In terms of working Cazzette, 4th & B’Way will be releasing a single full of Eject album tracks, including the very pop-leaning “Beam Me Up.” Word is this “Beam Me Up” hit #20 on Billboard‘s On-Demand chart on March 23. Expect the “Beam Me Up” single to hit iTunes in the next few days.
