This isn't really surprising news, considering that we'd already seen Avicii's "Wake Me Up" go #1 in under two hours when it was released in the UK, but Official Charts is reporting that "Wake Me Up" has "become the UK’s 140th million-selling single." This past Sunday, Avicii's True single reached one-million in sales, and this is after being christened the fastest-selling single of 2013, hitting 267,000 copies in its first week. In speaking to BBC Radio 1, Avicii had the following to say: "Having the fastest selling record of 2013 is obviously a huge deal to me. I never thought being on the Official Chart was an option for my music. Dance music has its own things; we have our own charts and lists, so just having a Number 1 is insane!"
This is all after it was revealed that Avicii made Billboard history with True. Needless to say, 2013 has definitely been the year that EDM has made important strides into the mainstream music scene.
