You know what’s tickled DAD since our inception? The throngs of Europeans who shit on our site, and the American dance music crowd in general, over use of the term “EDM.” We get that it’s a symbol of the gross commercialization that our country is known to inject into things and, as many would say, ruin dance music. So why is it that the UK shot Avicii‘s new single “Wake Me Up” to the top of the iTunes charts in 45 minutes?! One of those little ironies that we love documenting, especially when you consider that it’s only hit #68 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #8 on the Billboard Dance Charts in the US. You know, because we’re killing the industry.

Well the weird thing about wake me up is that the first time you hear it, you hate it. It sounds soooo cheesy. The used reverb must be some condemned plug-in verb: it sounds like absolute sh.t. The lead sounds? Comon Tim! Is this the guy from Bromance?? But… The song has something addictive. I reluctantly must admit, I kinda love it! The lyrics are cool and everyone can identify with them. And despite the cheesyness of the used sounds, the melody is catchy… The people are always right: Nbr 1 in Belgium, Holland, UK etc etc….
