And it is your fault. When DJ Yoda and Adam Saville of DJ Mag had a Twitter discussion on this year's list, Saville made it clear that the poll was based on the vote of the public, and not the views of the magazine. Now whether that "popular opinion" is swayed by DJs who actively campaign to place higher on the list is the real question, but as it stands, Saville isn't wrong, and today a piece hit their site giving you a number of things you should know about the Top 100 DJs list. One of them even addressed our question from the night of the announcement of Daft Punk's ranking, although it's basically the same reason they always give:

WHY DAFT PUNK?

Some people question why Daft Punk — or any other live electronic act — feature again in a poll geared towards DJs, despite not playing a DJ set for over a decade. It's simple. You cast the votes, we count them. As guardians of the poll it's our duty to print a list that's truly representative of your voting behaviour.

Now the flipside is, do they have plans on switching things up in 2014? Daft Punk being on the list wasn't "upsetting" (if you even want to use that term) because they're a "live electronic act," especially when deadmau5 is #12 and he's a live act as well. Our beef was with the fact that DAFT PUNK DIDN'T PLAY ANY SHOWS THIS YEAR. Could there at least be a clause that removes inactive artists? Or will there be some rewording of the list, where people who produce get included as well (with Random Access Memories being the obvious reason the androids were on the list)? The difference between "DJs" and "live" acts isn't the issue; if you're going to do a list of the best DJs that year, it should reflect people who are actually out performing.

Applause to DJ Mag for explaining themselves, although this all feels a tad bit emotional.
