Even from my early days of getting into the modern era of dance music, sometime around the fidget house craze of 2008-2009, Foamo was one of my go-to favorite producers–everything he touched, I loved, without exception. Then fidget went dry and Foamo disappeared for a bit, before I heard he was linking up with RackNRuin for this project called Gorgon City. This was in 2012. I was skeptic at first, because like many a pedestrian fan before me, I was concerned that the wobbles were gone. After gaining some familiarity, however, those concerns went entirely away, as Gorgon City truly sounded like a grown-up version of what both Matt and Kye had been experimenting with under different names before, with real polish and lush details.

Skip ahead a few more years, and today we have the announcement of their first album, a gargantuan 17-track effort called Sirens, due out in the US on October 7, on Priority / Capitol. Star-studded to the brim (no seriously- every track save for the final two has a notable feature on it), Sirens already shows signs of being Earth-moving, boasting collabs with MNEK, Katy B, Jennifer Hudson, Maverick Sabre, and more. It'd be easy at this point to suggest Gorgon City as an heir apparent to the pop-meets-deep house craze that Disclosure seemingly set bubbling, but there's just something more to this duo I haven't been able to put my finger on yet. Maybe it's the fact that they've been around for a minute and have had the time to go through several musical evolutions, maybe it's the literal heaps of collaborators, maybe it's just the fact that "Ready For Your Love" has been stuck in my head for going on eight goddamn months now- but there's something about Gorgon City that's big, something that could actually take over the pop music world, and I'm guessing we're going to find out what it is this fall.

You can pre-order Sirens on iTunes now, and you get "Ready For Your Love" ft. MNEK, "Here For You" ft. Laura Welsh, and "Unmissable" ft. Zak Able off-top with the purchase.
