It's with a deep sadness and shock that we report that longtime Kode9 collaborator known as The Spaceape has passed away. Hyperdub states that he'd bee struggling with a rare form of cancer for the last five years. Dubstep fans (Hyperdub fans in particular) should be very knowledgeable of The Spaceape's memorable voice; the very first release on the imprint was his collaboration with Kode9, "Sine Of The Dub." Memorable gems in the DAD office featuring Spaceape include "9 Samurai" and the title track to their 2011 LP Black Sun. He was even featured on Burial's debut album. Kode9 and The Spaceape had actually just released a new EP, Killing Season, which we recently covered via their latest video, "Devil Is a Liar."

The Spaceape (real name Stephen Samuel Gordon) leaves behind a wife and daughter. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. Here is Hyperdub's statement:
