Detroit, along with the rest of the world, are about five months away from the 14th annual musical pilgrimage to the Motor City known as the Movement Festival, powered by Paxahau. This 3 day fest over Memorial Day weekend (May 25-27, 2013) has acts from every single walk of electronic music fame touching down from across the globe to give the birthplace of techno a taste of how they get down.
This first phase of the lineup is really something special, as there are more artists that are pretty much heavyweights on the global scale but new to the Detroit lineup this year, with names like The Bug, Rrose, Hatcha, Nicole Moudaber, Big Gigantic, George Fitzgerald, Mala, Andy C, and Noisia making a first time appearance.
Festival stalwarts Richie Hawtin and Carl Craig are back again this year as themselves (Carl was 69 and Richie was Plastikman in 2010, both live sets), and we’re about 89.96% positive there will be a homecoming appearance by Claude Von Stroke (if not, there will probably be one hell of a Dirtybird afterparty to follow). The appearance of trance and progressive house legend John Digweed and a back to back set from Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson is a very nice touch to the already star-studded festival.
Tickets for General Admission are in its third wave right now at $80, and VIP tickets are at a highly competitive $199, both excluding service fees. You can get your tickets along with more info on the fest at movement.us.
(Ed. – On a personal note – this may be my 10th year going, and I was granted the honor of playing in 2010 – and every year has been something special… Outside of my family being in the area, no matter where I am in the country, it’s drawn me back to this awesome weekend. Don’t sleep! - JH)
