We tried to tell you that Astralwerks was important, and adding deadmau5 (and mau5trap) to their stable was proof of this. It’s not just about the established acts, but the newcomers who show a lot of potential, and Porter Robinson is that producer. According to Billboard, there was a brewing bidding war between a number of imprints, but it was Astralwerks (in America) / Virgin Music EMI (overseas) that won out. Details on the deal are unavailable, but considering that a) Astralwerks GM Glenn Mendlinger said that this “was a very competitive deal which was completely expected and warranted,” and b) Astralwerks is the imprint that signed Swedish House Mafia to a 360 deal, this “long-term and multi-faceted partnership” could be very lucrative for Porter and Astralwerks, considering the anticipation of Porter’s currently-untitled 2014 album and the early word of it having a number of “hits.”
We’ll keep you posted on this as more details emerge.
