In most drum & bass circles, the name Roni Size is almost synonymous with the turning of the tide, with drum & bass getting real rubs in a number of different circles. Alongside Reprazent, the 1997 Mercury Music Price winning New Forms ushered in a new appreciation for the scene, making Roni a coveted name in a number of circles. It’s been a decade since Roni Size’s last solo album, Return to V, so the news we received today should have fans of the producer/DJ ecstatic.

Roni Size has a new album, Take Kontrol, set to be released on August 25 via his new imprint, Mansion Sounds. This LP will be an iTunes deluxe album, clocking in at 25 tracks plus a DJ mix from Roni Size himself. Word is the standard digital/CD version will only be 16 tracks. This will be preceded by a six-track EP, Size Matters, which is set to drop on August 18, and is said to be full of “dancefloor cuts for the heads.” To get an idea of what you can expect, check out the Mixmag premiere “Made In Korea” down below.

If you want to stay in tune to more of what Roni’s got going (including word of a Reprazent return later this year, which will culminate with a new album in early 2015), you should sign up to his new mailing list. If you do, you’ll get the 2014 remix of “Bite The Bullet” for free. Also, be sure to check out ronisize.net.

ESSENTIAL RONI SIZE

Unfortunately, Roni also represents the “turning of the tide” when upfront DnB crawled up its own ass into oblivion. I’m V Records/Full Cycle till I die, but he personally been turning out pure shit for quite a while now.

Tracks like this one, that build to the same lame drop and then go nowhere. I mean, shit, how many tracks has he made that sound exactly like this? Second drop exactly the same as the first? It’s just boring.
