Moving Castle, Vol. 002

Moving Castle (and the various, globe-spanning artists they're comprised of) first popped up on our radar in late April with their first edition of their eponymous compilation and left us sort of floored–you don't get much better for a debut effort, especially from such a large collaborative of relatively new artists. Feeling what must have been no pressure off the back of a solid freshman release, Moving Castle struck again today with, for my tastes, an even better follow-up.

To compare the Moving Castle collective to the likes of Soulection or other niche, future-sounding groups of artists may make sense on the surface but would honestly be a dismissal on the whole–Moving Castle are unabashedly eking out their own sound within the rapidly expanding future bass landscape, and Volume 002 proves that in spades. The whole compilation is fire, but standout efforts from Hunt For The Breeze, Dugong Jr, Strehlow, and Mark Johns, as well as Yung Wall Street's flip of "Stay The Night," punctuate an already popping collection with tunes that you'll find yourself humming within the hour. As with Volume 001, the compilation is a full-on journey through R&B, club, trap, and beyond, culminating in a relentlessly sexy and cohesive end-product begging for repeat play. It's rare that a compilation of this size is this good on a major label–it's downright jaw-dropping when it is produced by a bunch of up-and-comers.

Cop the whole compilation for free on Moving Castle's SoundCloud page, where you probably won't mind paying the 'like' for the download.
