Bass driven house music always gets me when it's done a certain way.  I wouldn't necessarily say "the right way" because I hear immaculately produced stuff occasionally and it will just ultimately end up sounding really uninspired.  Enter Shox, though, with his recent Rinse FM residency announcement and previous credits for Trouble & Bass and Roska's Kicks & Snares imprint, and his new I Know EP for Fat! Records.  This four-track release is tough, diverse, explosive and a great nod to the past all in one package.

The title track kicks things off with a classic bassline house feel that recalls AC Slater's career highlights.  "Want Back" turns up the clubby garage vibes and bounces playfully with a dissonant vocal chop that just works. "Straight In" is a vibed out rinse of a track that flexes appropriately when the dubby bassline carrying the middle sections announces it's presence.  The closer, "LDN Underground," is the most laidback and melodic tune on the release and is also out there to cop for free.  The whole release is top notch though as it pushes boundaries and gives you a simultaneously nostalgic hug.  Ace combo.
