First off, we’ve got to send our condolences to the families of the victims from last night’s head scratcher of a tragedy. I simply can’t wrap my head around the idea of what really happened. And the craziest thing, at least to me and my immediate circle, is how it went national as news before it could really spread around Austin. With such an influx of people trying to use mobile networks in this town, some carriers are seriously failing. I mean, they should have this problem of regular mobile communication dropping out solved by next year. People need to be able to communicate in case of emergency. Period. End of story. And those who had service posting footage online almost immediately…I’m seriously curious to know what it’s like to not have any compassion or internal self censorship.
With that said, our event with Peligrosa and Karmaloop was fortunately unaffected and was honestly a crazy look at all things bass. Wicked sets last night from basically everyone including our very own Nappy, who was a last minute addition to a hole that popped open in the schedule. Messkid was firing on all cylinders from the jump with some broken beat style techno, jersey club and just ridiculous vibes. The Freshmoon collab set featured some of the most interesting footwork I’ve heard recently and their dj skills were just as noteworthy. Dirt Monkey came through with some wicked shots of bass on multiple tempos. Myrrys bounced the room around to some deliciously vibed out bass driven house. Shiftee followed up with what simply can really only be can be classified as an out of this world display of live midi, scratching, mixing and just flat out energy. The Sub.mission residents Coult45 and Despise closed out the night with their homie Truth from New Zealand, who’s technically amazing on the mix and we got a surprise appearance on the decks with Plastician joining in the back to back rotations. All crazy. Oh yeah…and Erick Rincon and Toy Selectah were seen hanging out if you check the video recap below, courtesy of Karmaloop.
