In Chicago, the term "house music" came from the music played at a popular club, The Warehouse. In New York, the sound of garage (before it hopped across the Atlantic and became UK garage) was born in the Paradise Garage, which spent 11 years exciting the nightclub life in the New York City area. DJs like Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, and Nicky Siano were highly influential to the sound of the Garage, and was part of the framework of modern clubs of today.

This week, a two-hour video clip (seemingly recorded from VHS) of the Paradise Garage's closing party surfaced on YouTube. If you want to see where the state of American dance music culture was in 1987, this is required viewing.
