Do you live in New York City and wanted to hit the Red Bull Music Academy‘s Culture Clash 2013 event at the Roseland Ballroom? Don’t get mad at DAD – we tried to give you some tickets. Fear not, though, as the good folks at Boiler Room are streaming the massive event right now. The full flyer (and the rules) are below, with all of the action up to. Who do you think will take the crown?
1. Culture Clash is split into four rounds with crews playing ten to 15 minutes each.
2. Crews will play exclusive dubplate specials and bring out special guests throughout the night. However, Round 4 is dubs and live performances ONLY—playing a regular record will lead to disqualification from that round.
3. Strictly no repeats! If a crew plays a record heard earlier in the night, they’re disqualified from winning that round. Only exception: if the record is introduced as a direct response or counteraction.
4. The winner is decided by you and you alone. Make mad noise for who you think should be crowned champion!
The rounds break up as follows:
ROUND ONE – TEMPERATURE RISING [15 minutes each]
Crews play whatever floats their boats. No winner in this round.
ROUND TWO – THE SELECTOR [12 minutes each]
Crews are judged on tune selection and presentation.
ROUND THREE – SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY [10 minutes each]
Crews twist it up and play an opponent’s style of music.
ROUND FOUR – THE DECIDER [10 minutes each]
Dubplate specials and exclusive live performances only. Attention: this round counts double.
Host Miss Info calls for the crowd to decide the winner. Make some noise!!!
IT’S A CELEBRATION
The 2013 Culture Clash champion closes out the night with one final set.
